Call Tracking and Lead Attribution

Know which marketing makes your phone ring.

Most businesses cannot say which ads, pages or channels produced last month’s clients. We set up the tracking that answers that question, so you can spend more on what works and cut what does not.

Our approach

How tracking works.

Tracking numbers by source

Each marketing source shows a different phone number: one for Google Ads, one for organic search, one for your Google Business Profile, and so on. Calls ring through to your normal line, and the system records which source produced each call.

On your website, dynamic number insertion swaps the number based on how each visitor arrived, while your main number stays consistent everywhere else online.

Connecting the full picture

Calls are only part of it. We track form fills, chats and booked appointments in Google Analytics 4 and connect them to your CRM. That lets you follow a lead from first click to signed client.

Lead quality matters most

With call recording, you can see which calls were real prospects, which were existing clients and which were spam. That is how marketing gets judged on the business it brings in.

Reporting you can read

Each month you get a short report: calls and leads by source, what changed, and what we recommend doing about it.

What gets tracked

Phone calls by source and campaign, form submissions, chats, booked appointments, and clicks on phone numbers and email links. Where your CRM allows it, we also track which leads became paying clients.

Privacy and consent

Call recording rules vary by state. Where required, we set up a short recording notice at the start of each call. For healthcare clients, tracking is configured to avoid collecting patient health information.

Putting the data to use

Tracking only matters if it changes decisions. Each month we look at which sources produced the best calls, which pages and campaigns underperformed, and where budget should move next.

Common mistakes

Common Call Tracking mistakes.

  • One number everywhere

Without separate numbers by source, you cannot tell which channel produced a call.

  • Changing your listed number

Your main number should stay consistent on Google and directories. Tracking numbers are added carefully and only where they belong.

  • Counting every call as a lead

Existing clients, vendors and spam inflate the numbers. Call review keeps reporting honest.

  • Tracking that breaks quietly

Website changes can break tracking without anyone noticing. We test it regularly.

Questions

Call Tracking questions, answered.

Don’t see your question? Call 240-820-2196 and ask.

Will tracking numbers hurt our local SEO?

Not when set up correctly. We use methods that keep your main number consistent across the web.

Can you connect to our CRM?

Most modern CRMs, yes. We confirm on our first call.

Do you listen to calls?

With your permission, call recordings help us judge lead quality and improve targeting.

Which call tracking tool do you use?

We typically use CallRail, and we can work with a system you already have.

Is there a separate cost for tracking software?

Yes. Call tracking software has its own monthly fee, usually based on the number of tracking lines and minutes. We recommend a setup that fits your call volume.

Can we track calls from Google Business Profile?

Yes. A tracking number is set as the primary number on the profile, with your main number kept as an additional number.

Do callers know they are being recorded?

Where the law requires it, a short recording notice plays at the start of the call. Consent rules vary by state, and we set it up to match yours.

Can we see the data ourselves?

Yes. You get your own login to the call tracking dashboard, along with the monthly report.
